"Tidal Grove", Stretched Classic Canvas Print

In Tidal Grove, a row of stylised mangrove forms stands shoulder to shoulder along a tidal bank, their trunks rendered as dark, vertical bands rising out of a deep blue fore-grounded swell. Above them, leaves flare in confident arcs of red, turquoise, and gold, like flags catching the afternoon light over the water. Behind the trees, low ochre dunes roll gently across the middle of the canvas, while the entire scene is built from tiny, tile-like tesserae that fracture the light into hundreds of subtle variations of cream, sand, and charcoal.

The piece is an abstracted memory of the vast mangrove ecosystems of South East Queensland and near-shore Islands, spread across its network of creeks, inlets, islets and tidal flats where life clusters thickly around the meeting of land, river and sea. The repeated tree forms read as a small grove at first glance, but also as a stand of flag waving guardians marking the edge of the waterway, holding stories of childhood explorations, mud crabs in the pots, and the quiet industry of an ecosystem that never truly sleeps. The mosaic structure keeps that energy alive: every segment catches a slightly different highlight, suggesting ripples on water, shifting sand, and the flicker of crabs and fish moving just out of sight.
