A long band of shoreline fills the canvas of "Tales Spoken by Land & Sea", where green water folds itself again and again over layered rock. At the top, the sea moves in translucent veils of teal and sand-gold, foam breaking into bright flecks as it reaches the edge of stone. Below, the rock shelves step down in a series of parallel “pages” – ochres, ambers, and honeyed browns separated by dark ink lines – as if the coastline itself has been opened like a book. Each stratum catches the light differently: sun-struck planes glowing warm, undercut ledges cooling into shadow, all of it marked with fine cracks and tide-worn texture.

The title points to what the Norse-Gael coast has always done: hold the memory of land while listening to the voice of the sea. These stone “pages” feel like chapters of time laid open – each layer a record of seasons, storms, and footfalls – while the moving water above them is the living voice that keeps speaking over the old story. The meeting of foam and sandstone suggests a quiet conversation between the fixed and the shifting, the ancient and the present moment. For those who see the world as created, ordered, and remembered by God, the work reads as a gentle reminder that nothing is lost: even the smallest wave leaves its mark in the long record of the earth.

Stylistically, this is contemporary abstract realism – highly detailed and tactile, yet still clearly a painting rather than a photograph. Fine contour lines and micro-cracks give the rock shelves a carved, almost calligraphic quality, while the water retains a soft, painterly surface that keeps the image from feeling mechanical. With its wide 2:1 panoramic format, Tales Spoken by Land & Sea is designed to anchor a room: above a sideboard or console, over a sofa, along a hallway, or as a statement piece in a study, library, or coastal home. It pairs naturally with modern interiors that want a serious artwork rather than simple beach décor, and it quietly complements spaces shaped by faith, memory, and a love of the Gaelic shore.
