A sheer Hebridean headland rises on the right, its ochre rock streaked with fine vertical runs of paint beneath a dense crown of green. In Sky Kin VI – Gannet Over the Spiral Sea, that weight of cliff and foliage presses against a field of high white sky and a distant, misted headland on the left, setting up a quiet tension between solidity and light. Below, a powerful Atlantic swell heaves across the frame in layered bands of turquoise, jade and deep blue, frothing into white where the water drives back against the rock.
In the foreground the sea becomes language. Deep indigo water is overlaid with large teal spirals and smaller rust-red coils, turning the lower third into a Gaelic spiral sea – part current, part script, like prayers or ancestral memory written into the depths. Across the high left, a dark-blue gannet glides leftward, away from the cliff and out over the bright sky. The bird reads as a watcher and messenger rather than a hero: a living mark crossing from the known weight of land and history into the open, God-lit unknown.
Stylistically this canvas sits in contemporary abstract realism with a strong symbolic undercurrent. The cliffs and distant headland hold enough realism to satisfy coastal collectors, while the spirals, paint runs and high-key light root the work firmly in a modern, Gaelic-inspired visual language. The tall 2:3 vertical format makes it a natural statement piece for stairwells, narrow entry walls, reading corners, meditation spaces, or coastal retreat bedrooms.
