Clan na Gael — Irish American (1870)

A salute to the long, unbroken thread of Irish heritage in America. The year 1870 marks the moment the Irish-American organization "Clan na Gael" adopted that name, meaning "Family of the Gaels". Centered in the artwork is the rising sun, first used by the Irish Republican Brotherhood as a symbol of renewal, resolve, and the dawning of freedom. A proud, gold Gaelic Christian Cross is naturally positioned below the primary design. Clan na Gael became the largest single financier of both the Easter Rising and the Irish War of Independence.

What it stands for

This original design honors generations of Irish Americans who supported Ireland’s struggle for independence and who continue to care about the future of the land of their ancestors. It recognizes the history of the British occupation (which remains even now 400 years later) and acknowledges today’s dire problem of unwanted Mass Migration, which is effectively a Second Plantation of Ireland. The Irish are the first people of Ireland, with a continuity that reaches into the prehistoric era. Irish heritage and Irish people's attachment to their ancestral land deserves the same respect afforded to any so-called "First Nations" people. This unapologetic message is about Irish American support for cultural preservation and protection of their ancestral Gaelic homeland.
